I looked at the elevation chart for the
Bukk marathon, and thought that the
distance and elevation is like Saddleback.

Yeah, it will be a little tough, but I
do OK. Well, it was a lot tougher then
I thought...image the 100 km!

So, I got to Budapest, and the next day
Feri and I packed up his car and went
to Eger to party.

It had been a while since I did a real
mountain bike racing road trip, and
it felt real good.

|
More than 600 racers showed up for the
race, and it was really cool to see that
some riders still had MBAH jersey's.

It was good to see people I had not seen
in a long time. Here is one of the original
Ronto Bonto riders - Godzilla.

You know, it had been more than 3 years
since I had been to a Hungarian race,
and it was good to see a good turn-out.

|
The start area was really crowded with
so many excited riders, even the threating
rain didn't dampin the spirits.

The first couple km were on the road,
which helped string out the starting
pack before the trail.

|
Most of the climb was on jeep trails,
and the weather was warm and dry. Some
parts were muddy though.

It was so good to be in the green forests
of the Bukk mountains again. I miss all
the green, but not the bugs!
07/20/02
|
Some of the features of the Bukk
added some variety to the endless
green of the forests.

|
The last climb was rediculusly steep,
and the group I was riding with took
it easy going up, and took my photo.

|
The party riders, as we called our
group of hung over riders. On the down
hill section, one rider earned his marks.

Feri did well with the 100km race, but
got a little dirty. Just another day of
professional racing.
